Pelham, New Hampshire is in Hillsborough County. Initially, the north and west part of Pelham was part of Old Dunstable, while the south and east part was included in Dracut, but the community separated in 1741, at the time that the border dispute between Massachusetts and New Hampshire was settled, and was incorporated as Pelham in 1746, named for Thomas Pelham-Holles, 1st Duke of Newcastle. The first building erected in the area that was to become Pelham was a garrison house constructed near Mammoth and Sherburne Roads in 1719, under the direction of the Masonian Proprietors for the purpose of opening up the land for settlement.
