The small town of Webster, in central Merrimack County, New Hampshire, was part of Boscawen until 1860, with it was incorporated as a separate municipality, named for Daniel Webster, who had begun his legal practice in Webster. The area began to be settled in 1734, and became part of Boscawen in 1760. By 1791, the part of the town that was to become Webster had a population sufficient to justify the construction of a separate meeting house, which later became the Second Congregational Church of Boscawen.
