The town of Whitefield is in Coos County, situated on the northern edge of the New Hampshire White Mountains. Whitefield was the last town granted under the English provincial government, having been chartered on July 4, 1774, two years before the colonists adopted the Declaration of Independence. Its original name was Whitefields, but it was changed to Whitefield when the town was incorporated in 1804. The Johns River runs through the center of town. Whitefield is southeast of Dalton, New Hampshire.
