Absecon is a city in Atlantic County, New Jersey. The community has a history that dates back before 1716, when Kings Highway was constructed along an Indian trail that is now Shore Road. Prior to 1774, it was a small village in Gloucester County, inland of Absecum Beach in what was then the Province of West New Jersey. In 1774, Galloway was created by King George III, encompassing the village. Absecon separated from Galloway in 1872, becoming a town, and then a city in 1902.
