Located on the Barnegat Peninsula, also known as Barnegat Bay Island, a narrow barrier island separating Barnegat Bay from the Atlantic Ocean, Bay Head is a borough in Ocean County, New Jersey. Incorporated in 1886, the borough was supposed to have been named Bayhead, for the Bayhead Land Company which developed the area, but the railroad labeled it Bay Head and the name stuck.
