Originally incorporated as Ocean Beach Borough in 1885, then the City of Elcho Borough in 1889, the community’s name was changed to the City of Belmar Borough a few weeks later, finally acquiring its current name in 1890, the Borough of Belmar is in Monmouth County, New Jersey.
