Situated in the Delaware Valley coastal plain, about eight miles southeast of Philadelphia, Cherry Hill is a township in Camden County. The area was first settled by the Lenni-Lenape Native Americans, while the first Europeans in the area were Quakers from England, followers of William Penn, who came to the area in the late 17th century. The initial European settlement was known as Colestown, which was incorporated as Delaware Township in 1844, which was changed to Cherry Hill Township in 1961. The township borders Merchantville Borough and Pennsauken Township on the north, and Voorhees Township on the south.
