Clayton, New Jersey is a borough in Gloucester County. The initial settlement, established in 1850, was known as Fislertown, which grew largely around a glass factory that was opened by Jacob Fisler. Clayton was originally incorporated as a township in 1858, becoming a borough in 1887. Clayton is bordered by Glassboro, Elk Township, Franklin Township, and Monroe Township. Clayton is south of Glassboro and north of Franklinville.
