Incorporated by the New Jersey Legislature in 1880, Eastampton Township is in Burlington County. In the mid-1800s, the area was known as Shreveville, which was largely an industrial village built around a collection of mills. The township borders the townships of Lumberton, Mount Holly, Pemberton, Southampton, Springfield, and Westampton. The community of Smithville is located within the the township.
