Emerson, New Jersey was originally incorporated, in 1903, as the Borough of Etna, which was the name of the railroad station in the area, but its name was changed to Emerson in 1909. Emerson Borough is in the Pascack Valley of Bergen County, south of River Vale, north of Oradell, and north and west of the Oradell Reservoir.
