The borough of Fanwood was incorporated by the New Jersey Legislature in 1895 from parts of Fanwood Township, which is now known as Scotch Plains. The borough is in Union County, and was named for Fanny Wood, a journalist who wrote about the area. Fanwood is north of Plainfield and west of Westfield.
