Haddon Heights, New Jersey was incorporated as a borough in 1904. The area was settled in 1699 by John Hinchman. In 1713, John Siddon built a farmhouse nearby and, sometimes before 1776, John Thorn Glover dammed King’s Run and built a mill race and fulling mill on the property. Jacob Hinchman built the first frame dwelling around 1720, which was enlarged by Colonel Joseph Ellis, and later purchased by New Jersey Governor Joseph Bloomfield. Benjamin A. Lippincott, in 1890, built a passenger station in the center of his land for the Atlantic City Railroad, then, along with Charles Hillman, he filed a grid plan to develop the community, naming it Haddon Heights due to its proximity to Haddonfield on its high elevation.
