Haddonfield, New Jersey was incorporated in 1875, within portions of Haddon Township, separating from Haddon Township to become a separate entity in 1894. Haddonfield was founded by Elizabeth Haddon, whose father, John Haddon, a Quaker, had bought five hundred acres in the English colony of West Jersey in order to escape religious persecution. The town was named for John Haddon, although he never came to the United States.
