New Jersey has two Hamilton Townships, one in Atlantic and another in Mercer County. The Hamilton Township in Atlantic County developed along the Great Egg Harbor River, and was incorporated as a township from parts of Egg Harbor Township and Weymouth Township in 1813, and Mays Landing is a census-designated place within the township. In Mercer County, Hamilton Township was incorporated from portions of the former Nottingham Township in 1842, and named for Hamilton Square, which may have been named for Alexander Hamilton.
