Formed in 1888, Helmetta is a borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, and named for George Washington Helme, who founded the community in the 1880s. Helmetta grew up around the Helme Snuff Mill, which began producing snuff in the 1880s, becoming the largest of its kind in the world by 1925, closing in 1993. Helmetta is north of Jamesburg.
