Bordering Lake Hopatcong, the largest lake in New Jersey, Hopatcong is a borough in Sussex County. The community began as a summer residence and amusement park, which developed into a permanent residential community. Before incorporating as Hopatcong, the community was known as Brookland, then Brooklyn.
