Named for Union Civil War General Philip Kearny, the town of Kearny is in Hudson County, New Jersey. Kearny began as a township in 1867, and was incorporated as a town in 1899. There are three basic parts of town, which are known as the Kearny Uplands, Kearny Meadows, and Kearny Point. The collection of small parks that are located along the Passaic River are called, collectively, Riverbank Park. Kearny is bordered by East Newark, Harrison, and North Arlington. It is separated from Newark and Belleville by the Passaic River, while the Hackensack River separates it from Jersey City.
