Incorporated in 1871, Lacey Township is in the Jersey Shore region of Ocean County, New Jersey. Forked River is an unincorporated community within the township, as are the communities of Bamber Lakes, Lanoka Harbor, Laurel Harbor, and Sun Rise Harbor. As the larger community within the township, many locals refer to all of Lacey Township as Forked River. The Unitarian-Universalist retreat center of Murray Grove is thought to be where Universalism began in America.
