Long Hill Township is the southernmost township in Morris County, New Jersey. On the west and south, it is bounded by the Passaic River. In 1838, a post office was established at Long Hill but, in 1866, Passaic Township was formed when the southern part of Morris County was granted its autonomy. In 1922, the northern part of Passaic Township split off to form Harding Township. In 1992, residents of Passaic Township passed a binding referendum to reclaim the township’s original name of Long Hill, which now includes the villages of Gillette, Homestead Park, Meyersville, Millington, and Stirling, each of which have a long history.
