Lyndhurst Township is in Bergen County, New Jersey. It was originally incorporated, in 1852, as Union Township, but its name was changed in 1917. Before that, it was known as Achter Col. Once owned by Major Kingsland, who never came to America, the area was settled by his nephews, Isaac and Gustavus. Isaac built the first house in Lyndhurst and, upon the death of Isaac, his oldest son, Colonel Edmund Kingsland, inherited all of the land that he owned.
