The borough of Manville, New Jersey is in Somerset County. Prior to becoming an independent municipality, Manville was part of Hillsborough Township, the largest township in Somerset County, and one in which George Washington and Nathaniel Greene wintered in during the Revolutionary War. Manville became a separate municipality after the Johns-Manville Products Corporation, the world’s largest producer of asbestos, decided to locate its plant there. Manville was incorporated as a borough in 1929.
