The city of Margate, New Jersey, in Atlantic County, was incorporated as the borough of South Atlantic City in 1885, reincorporating as a city in 1897, then changing its name to Margate City in 1909. Margate City is situated on Absecon Island, which also contains Atlantic City and Ventnor City, to the northeast, and Longport to the southwest. Margate borders on Ventnor City and Longport. As a summer destination, many of the homes in Margate are second homes that are used during the summer months. Margate has no hotels, and weekly house of condominium rentals are rare.
