Maywood, New Jersey is a borough in Bergen County, incorporated as such in 1894. The area that was to become Maywood was once part of land granted to Captain John Berry in 1668. Maywood was originally part of New Barbados Township. When Hackensack became a village, the western part of the township became Midland Township. In 1871, the New Jersey Midland Railroad was constructed, and a railroad station was established at a country road crossing, and called Maywood. Later a post office was located at the station, and the developing town became a borough.
