National Park is a borough in Gloucester County, New Jersey. Despite its name, National Park is not associated with a national park. In 1777, during the Revolutionary War, General George Washington had two forts built on the Delaware River in order to block a British approach to Philadelphia. Fort Mifflin was on the Pennsylvania side, while Fort Mercer, on the New Jersey side, became National Park. In 1895, the area was commercially developed as National Park on on the Delaware, a Methodist Episcopal religious retreat, which became a borough in 1902.
