The borough of Oaklyn is in Camden County, New Jersey. The first Europeans to make their homes in the area were a group of Quakers who settled on Newton Creek in 1682. William Bastes, their leader, bought 250 acres on the south side of Newton Creek from the Nenape Native Americans, founding Newton Colony, which is now the Manor section of Oaklyn. After the Revolutionary War, the farms along Newton Creek were divided into lots and the development was named Oakland the Beautiful, which was shortened to Oaklyn in 1894. Oaklyn borders Audubon, Audubon Park, Collingswood, and Haddon Township.
