Oxford, in Warren County, was formed in 1754, and incorporated as one of New Jersey’s initial group of townships in 1798. Oxford is situated in easternmost Lehigh Valley, bordering Washington, Mansfield, White, and Liberty townships. Oxford Furnace, built in 1741, was the third furnace in Colonial New Jersey, and the first to be constructed at a site where iron ore was mined. The village of Oxford is an unincorporated community within the township.
