The Bergen County borough of Ridgefield, New Jersey was incorporated in 1892 from portions of the now defunct Ridgefield Township. There are three defined sections of the borough. The first is known as Ridgefield, situated in the valley on both the east and west sides. The second section is Morsemere, in the northern part of the borough, and the third is Ridgefield Heights, on the second hill in the eastern part of the borough. After the Hackensack tribe of the Lenapes, the area was settled by the Dutch.
