Incorporated from portions of Livingston Township, the borough of Roseland is located in western Essex County, New Jersey. The community was originally part of the Horseneck Tract, which included several of the surrounding communities. In 1702, settlers bought the land from the Lenape. The settlement that was to become Roseland was first named Centerville, which was changed because there were several other towns by that name.
