The borough of Roselle, New Jersey was incorporated in 1894. Prior to that, it was part of Linden. The borough is in Union County, bordered by Roselle Park, Elizabeth, Linden, and Cranford. The world’s first electric lighting system using overhead wires, began in Roselle in 1883; it had been built by Thomas Edison to demonstrate that an entire community could be powered by electricity. The first church lit by electricity was the First Presbyterian Church in Roselle. Rosey Grier, formerly with the Los Angeles Rams, played high school football at Abraham Clark High School in Roselle.
