Secaucus, New Jersey is a town in the New Jersey Meadowlands of Hudson County. Once an island, known as Sikakes, the area was purchased by Peter Stuyvesant, Director-General of New Netherland, in 1658. First chartered as Bergen in 1660, the oldest municipality in New Jersey became Bergen Township in 1683, was incorporated as a borough in 1900, and a town in 1917. Districts within the town include County Avenue, Harmon Cove, Harmon Meadows, Snake Hill, North End, Secaucus Junction, Riverbend, and the Secaucus Plaza Central Business District.
