Incorporated in 1907, South Bound Brook is a borough in Somerset County, New Jersey. Originally, the community was organized as a town in Franklin Township. Its name was changed to Bloomington in 1869, but was changed back to South Bound Brook in 1891. The South Bound Brook area was settled as a Dutch community whose economy was based on apple and peach orchards. During the American Revolution, the Abraham Staats House, in South Bound Brook, served as the headquarters for Baron Von Steuben, and the Queens Bridge was used by both Colonial and British forces.
