South Toms River is situated on the south side of the Toms River, across from Toms River Township, in Ocean County, New Jersey. South Toms River was formed from parts of Berkeley Township, and incorporated in 1927. The Garden State Parkway bisects the borough, connecting Beachwood and Berkeley Township, and US Route 9 runs from Beachwood to the east, while County Road 530 crosses the borough from Berkeley Township to a point just over the border in Toms River Township. Route 166 cuts into the northeastern corner of the borough.
