There are two townships by the name of Springfield in New Jersey, one in Union County and another in Burlington County. The township in Burlington County was formed in 1688, and incorporated as one of the state’s initial group of townships in 1798. Unincorporated communities within the township include Arneys Mount, Chambers Corner, Ellis, Folwell, Jacksonville, Jobstown, Juliustown, Pine Lane, and Powell, as well as Fort Dix, which is partially within the township. The Union County township was formed in 1794, and was also included among New Jersey’s initial townships in 1798. The township is located on the northern edge of Union County. During the Revolutionary War, the Battle of Springfield was fought in Springfield.
