The borough of Totowa, New Jersey is in Passaic County, New Jersey. The area that was to become Totowa was settled by George Willocks, a Scottish land speculator who purchased a tract of land that became known as Willock’s Patent, and included most of the current borough. After the tract was sold to Anthony Brockholls and the Van Houtens, the land became the Totota Patent, which was divided into three parcels, including what is now Totowa, Woodland Park, and Little Falls. In 1898, the borough separated from Manchester and Wayne townships, forming an independent borough.
