Vernon Township is in the Kittatinny Valley, in Sussex County, New Jersey. It is home to Mountain Creek, originally known as Great Gorge and Vernon Valley, a large ski resort and water park, as well as the Hidden Valley ski resort. Vernon separated from Hardyston Township in 1793, becoming an independent township in 1798.
