Waldwick is in Bergen County, New Jersey. The area was first explored by the Dutch around 1610, becoming a Dutch possession with the creation of the New Amsterdam Colony in 1624, but it was sparsely inhabited until after 1664, when it became an English possession. Originally a part of Franklin Township, it became part of Orvil Township in 1886, and remained such until 1919, when it became a borough and was renamed Waldwick. The Ho-Ho-Kus Brook flows through the center of town, and the borough is bordered by Allendale, Ho-Ho-Kus, Midland Park, Saddle River, Wyckoff, and the village of Ridgewood.
