There are a few municipalities in New Jersey that carry the name Washington, including a borough in Warren County, and separate townships in Bergen, Burlington, Gloucester, Morris, and Warren counties. The borough became independent from the township in Warren County in 1868. The township in Bergen County was created in 1840, while the Burlington County township was formed in 1802. Washington Township, in Gloucester County, was incorporated in 1838, and includes the unincorporated community of Turnersville. The Morris County township was separated from Roxbury Township in 1798, and includes the communities of Long Valley and Schooley’s Mountain. Washington Township, in Warren County, was formed in 1848, and includes Brass Castle and Port Colden.
