Wharton, New Jersey is in Morris County. Incorporated as the borough of Port Oram in 1895, its name was changed to Wharton in 1902. Its history goes back to 1831, when the Morris Canal was completed, passing through Boonton, Dover, and Port Oram, from which iron ore was being mined. The borough is located between Routes 15, 46 and 80, reaching south from the main entrance of Picatinny Arsenal to Route 46, bounded on the west by Roxbury Township and the east by Dover and Rockaway townships. The borough is about 2.2 square miles.
