Woodbine was founded as a settlement for Eastern European Jews in 1891, and incorporated as a borough in 1903. As most of its original settlers were Jewish, Woodbine became known as the first self-governing Jewish community since the fall of Jerusalem. During World War II, the U.S. Army built an airfield in Woodbine, which was used as a training base and as a base for anti-submarine patrols, which now largely comprises the Woodbine Municipal Airport. Woodbine is bordered by Dennis Township and Upper Township.
