The village of Chama is in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico. Its history goes back to 1880, when the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad began construction of the San Juan extension. Its early industries including logging, mining and sheep and cattle ranching, while today Chama’s economy is fed largely by tourism and new businesses started by people hoping to escape congested urban areas. Chama is east of Dulce and north of Tierra Amarilla, in the San Juan Mountains.

Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad
