Cimarron, New Mexico is a village in Colfax County. The community was built upon what was originally the Beaubien-Miranda Land Grant, and developed by Charles Lucien B. Maxwell, who built a mansion there that was a large as a city block. Located just south of Cimarron is the Philmont Scout Ranch, a high-adventure base operated by the Boy Scouts of America. Cimarron was chartered in 1859, serving as the seat of Colfax County from 1872 to 1881, when it was moved to Springer.
