Hobbs is a city in Lea County, near the southeastern corner of the New Mexico. Its roots go back to 1907, when James Isaac Hobbs and his family arrived in the area from Texas, and its growth began in 1928 when oil was discovered. The city is home to the Zia Park racetrack which hosts thoroughbred and quarterhorse racing.
