Magdalena is a village in Socorro County, New Mexico. The community was formed as a result of the opening of the Kelly Mine in Kelly, south of Magdalena, in 1883. Magdalena was named after Magdalena Peak, overlooking the village. The pass to the south of the peak became known as Magdalena Gap, so when the town grew up there, it was given the same name. Magdalena is west of Socorro.
