Rio Rancho, New Mexico is the largest city in Sandoval County, with a portion of the city extending into Bernalillo County.Once part of the Alameda Grant of 1710, by the early 1900s, most of the land was in the hands of investment companies. The Amrep Corporation formed a housing development known as Rio Ranch Estates in the early 1960s, which grew into the city that was incorporated in 1981. Adjacent to Albuquerque, Rio Rancho has its own school and library systems.
