Arapahoe, North Carolina is in Pamlico County. The community was settled along an old Indian trail from the big bend in the river west to Core Point, and was first known as Bethany Crossroads. As there was, at the time, already a town by that name, the post office changed its name to Bob’s Town, for Bob Hardison and and Bob Bowden, who had applied for a postal designation. Not liking that name, it was changed to Arapahoe, which was the name of Bob Hardison’s horse.
