Named for Alfred Monroe Benson, an early settler, the town of Benson, North Carolina is in Johnston County, south-southeast of Raleigh. Mr. Benson’s purchase of a 402-acre tract initiated the settlement of the area, as Benson sold portions of his tract to settlers during the 1880s, many of whom were farmers. The town was incorporated in 1887. In 1984, 54-acres of the town, centered around Benson’s business district, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
