Located at the entrance to Pisgah National Forest, Brevard has become a tourist center, particularly given its nearby waterfalls, including Looking Glass Falls, Connestee Falls, and Sliding Rock. Brevard is home to Brevard College. Brevard came into being as the county seat on the first official meeting of the Transylsvania County Court, which was also the day that North Carolina seceded from the Union. Brevard was named for Ephraim Brevard, a Revolutionary War hero.
