Creswell is situated in Inner Banks of North Carolina, on the north-central part of the Albemarle-Pamlico Peninsula, and along the southern part of the Scuppernong River, in Washington County. The town was incorporated in 1874, and named for John Angel James Creswell, the U.S. Postmaster General at the time. Creswell is southeast of Scuppernong and southwest of Columbia, just south of I-64.
