Constructed in 1758 by Francis Corbin, the home was purchased by Dr. Samuel Dickinson after the death of Corbin, and it remained in the Dickinson family for one hundred and forty-one years, until the last of the family was unable to maintain it. Its gardens were sold for commercial development until only ten feet of space remained outside of the home itself. In 1918, the Cupola House Association assumed responsibility for its restoration and maintenance, available for tours and events.
