Situated in the northeast portion of North Carolina, Elizabeth City is the seat of Pasquotank County, although a portion of it reaches into Camden County, as well. The city was founded as the town of Redding in 1793, renamed in 1794. Elizabeth City is in the Inner Banks region, and is nicknamed the "Harbor of Hospitality".
